The Judgment
Retreat describes the strategic withdrawal required when opposing forces are increasing and direct confrontation would waste strength. Success is possible because retreat protects what cannot be defended effectively under the present conditions. Perseverance remains useful in small matters. Withdrawal is not surrender when it preserves integrity, timing and future freedom of movement.
