The Judgment
Treading describes the careful conduct required when moving near strength, authority or danger. The traditional image is of stepping on the tail of a tiger without being bitten. Success is possible, but only when confidence is joined with awareness, respect and appropriate behavior. This hexagram does not counsel fear. It teaches us to understand where we stand and to move in a way that does not provoke unnecessary harm.
